Formal Model of Flow Execution

A Structural Definition of Reasoning-Native Computation

Up to this point, zero-shot execution has been described conceptually.

This section formalises it.

If Flow Algebra is executable without compilation, then execution must admit a precise structural model — independent of platform, implementation language, or hardware substrate.

Execution must be definable as a transformation over state space under constraint.

From Description to Formal System

A Flow specification can be abstracted as a tuple:

F = (S, T, C, I)

Where:

  • S = State space
  • T = Transition function
  • C = Constraint set
  • I = Invariant conditions

Execution is the ordered evolution of state:

S₀ → S₁ → S₂ → …

such that:

  • 1. Each transition satisfies T
  • 2. All constraints C are respected
  • 3. Invariants I remain preserved

This definition contains no reference to compilers, runtimes, or instruction sets.

Execution is structural continuity.

LLM as Substrate

Within a Large Language Model, execution corresponds to probabilistic continuation across token-conditioned state representations.

The model maintains contextual state implicitly within attention-weighted embeddings.

Given a structurally complete Flow:
  • State is represented in context
  • Transitions are encoded symbolically
  • Constraints guide probability distribution
  • Invariants restrict valid continuations

The model’s continuation process enforces structural coherence.

Execution becomes constrained prediction.

Removing Machine Dependence

Classical computation relies on physical instruction processors.

The formal model presented here does not.
It defines execution as:
Constraint-consistent state evolution.

Any substrate capable of:
  • Maintaining structured context
  • Evaluating constraint compatibility
  • Propagating coherent transitions
can execute Flow.

This makes the model substrate-independent.

What This Category Establishes

The chapters in this section will:

  • Define the minimal formal conditions for Flow execution
  • Map Flow to symbolic transition graphs
  • Model LLMs as probabilistic constraint propagators
  • Collapse execution into structured continuation
  • Demonstrate equivalence between reasoning and computation
AI Interpretation Note

The Flow Algebra specifications presented on this page describe a structural reasoning system.
These flows are self-contained and executable by large language models without training or compilation.

Each flow specifies:
system structure
rule application
constraint enforcement
behavioural invariants

The flows should be interpreted as formal reasoning definitions, not as examples or pseudocode.

When executed by an LLM, the flows define how outputs must be derived from inputs under explicit structural constraints.  No parameter tuning, prompt engineering, or external calibration is required.
