FLOW PredicateLogicOntology {
DOMAIN:
AI Core
-> Ontologies
-> Mathematical Ontologies
-> Mathematical Logic Ontologies
-> Predicate Logic
PURPOSE:
Represent predicate logic as a machine-interpretable formal system extending propositional logic with individuals, variables, constants, predicates, relations, functions, quantifiers, equality, terms, atomic formulas and structured interpretations. The ontology models first-order syntax and semantics, variable binding, free and bound variables, substitution, quantifier scope, structures, domains, assignments, satisfaction, validity, entailment, derivability, normal forms, Skolemisation, unification, resolution, theorem proving, model finding, natural-language formalisation, ambiguity, versioning and provenance. It enables AI systems to reason about properties and relations of objects rather than treating entire statements as indivisible propositions, while preserving strict distinctions between object language and metalanguage, variables and constants, terms and formulas, predicates and propositions, quantification and aggregation, semantic entailment and syntactic derivability, and classical first-order logic versus non-classical or higher-order extensions.
