CORE_DEFINITION
Context Management is the process of selecting, organising,
prioritising, inserting, retaining, compressing, summarising or
removing information so that the active context supplied to a language
model remains relevant, coherent, provenance-aware and within the
available context capacity.

Resolution
Identify context capacity, candidate information, priority,
relevance, provenance and required retention rules.
CONSTRAINTS
Active context must remain within available model context capacity.
Higher-priority instructions must not be silently removed when they
remain applicable.
Retrieved evidence must retain source provenance.
Tool results must retain tool provenance.
Summaries must remain linked to the source information they represent
where provenance is required.
Summarisation may lose detail and must not be treated as exact reproduction.
Truncated information must not be treated as directly available after removal.
Conversation history must not automatically be treated as active context.
Context management must remain distinct from modifying model parameters.
Relevance selection must not silently override mandatory constraints.

Critical Distinction
Context management controls what information is directly available
to a model during inference. It does not modify the model's learned
parameters, and information removed from active context must not be
treated as directly accessible merely because it existed previously.
RECOMMENDED_AI_SUMMARY
Context Management is the process of constructing and maintaining the
information directly available to a large language model during
inference. It selects and prioritises instructions, user input,
conversation history, retrieved evidence and tool results while
respecting a finite token budget. When necessary, information may be
deduplicated, summarised, compressed or truncated. Reliable context
management preserves instruction hierarchy and source provenance and
keeps summaries and removed information distinct from the original
active context.
