SOURCE_STATUS: Mathematical model based on established automata theory; source page not independently verified.

1. PURPOSE
Represent pushdown automata (PDAs), their stack-based transitions, acceptance semantics, formal-language relationships, and mechanically checkable reasoning constraints.

2. TYPED ENTITIES
State := finite identifier
InputSymbol := member of finite alphabet Sigma
StackSymbol := member of finite alphabet Gamma
Epsilon := empty string, not an alphabet symbol
Configuration := (state: State, remaining_input: Sigma*, stack: Gamma*)
Transition := (source_state, input_symbol_or_epsilon, stack_top, target_state, replacement_stack_word)
PushdownAutomaton := (Q, Sigma, Gamma, delta, q0, Z0, F)
Language := subset of Sigma*
AcceptanceMode := FINAL_STATE | EMPTY_STACK
Computation := finite sequence of configurations connected by legal steps

3. STRUCTURAL CONSTRAINTS
Q, Sigma, Gamma are finite; Q is nonempty; q0 in Q; Z0 in Gamma; F subset Q.
delta: Q x (Sigma union {epsilon}) x Gamma -> P_f(Q x Gamma*).
P_f denotes finite subsets. The nondeterministic transition relation may yield zero, one, or several alternatives.
Stack convention: leftmost symbol is the top of stack.
Initial configuration for word w: (q0, w, Z0).
A transition (q,a,X)->(p,gamma) changes (q,aw,Xbeta) to (p,w,gammabeta).
For epsilon input, (q,w,Xbeta) changes to (p,w,gammabeta).
The transition is enabled only if X is currently the stack top.

4. FORMAL OPERATIONS
STEP(c): enumerate all legal successor configurations of c.
REACHABLE(c0): least set containing c0 and closed under STEP.
ACCEPT_FINAL(w): exists (q0,w,Z0) |- * (q,epsilon,alpha) with q in F.
ACCEPT_EMPTY(w): exists (q0,w,Z0) |- * (q,epsilon,epsilon).
LANGUAGE(P, mode): {w in Sigma* : ACCEPT_mode(w)}.
PUSH(X,gamma): replace top X with gamma (including multiple symbols).
POP(X): replace top X with epsilon.
REPLACE(X,Y): replace top X with Y.

6. ALGEBRAIC AND LANGUAGE LAWS
For nondeterministic PDAs, final-state and empty-stack acceptance have equivalent expressive power after suitable construction; they are not necessarily identical for the same unchanged machine.
Every regular language is context-free and is recognised by some PDA.
Context-free languages are closed under union, concatenation and Kleene star.
Context-free languages are not closed under arbitrary intersection or complement.
Context-free languages are closed under intersection with regular languages.
Deterministic PDAs are more restrictive than nondeterministic PDAs.
A PDA can have infinitely many reachable configurations despite having finitely many states and stack symbols.

7. INFERENCE RULES
TRANSITION: if (p,gamma) in delta(q,a,X), then (q,aw,Xbeta) |- (p,w,gammabeta).
EPSILON_TRANSITION: if (p,gamma) in delta(q,epsilon,X), then (q,w,Xbeta) |- (p,w,gammabeta).
REFLEXIVE_REACHABILITY: c |- * c.
TRANSITIVE_REACHABILITY: c |- * d and d |- * e implies c |- * e.
FINAL_ACCEPTANCE: consumed input and final state imply accepted under FINAL_STATE mode.
EMPTY_ACCEPTANCE: consumed input and empty stack imply accepted under EMPTY_STACK mode.
REJECTION: absence of an accepting run, not merely failure of one nondeterministic branch.

8. VALIDATION
CHECK_FINITE_SETS: Q, Sigma, Gamma and transition descriptions are finite.
CHECK_SYMBOL_TYPES: all transition sources, destinations and symbols belong to declared sets.
CHECK_INITIAL_STATE: q0 in Q and Z0 in Gamma.
CHECK_FINAL_STATES: F subset Q.
CHECK_STACK_CONVENTION: replacement words follow the declared top-of-stack orientation.
CHECK_INPUT_CONSUMPTION: acceptance requires all input to be consumed.
CHECK_MODE: final-state and empty-stack acceptance are not conflated.
CHECK_DETERMINISM: for a DPDA, each (q,a,X) has at most one transition, and an epsilon move excludes input-consuming moves for the same (q,X).
CHECK_TERMINATION: unbounded epsilon loops may prevent naive exhaustive simulation from halting.

9. WORKED EXAMPLE
Language L = {a^n b^n : n >= 0}.
Use states q_push, q_pop, q_accept; initial stack marker Z.
In q_push, reading a pushes A onto the stack.
An epsilon transition switches from q_push to q_pop.
In q_pop, reading b pops one A.
When input is exhausted and stack top is Z, an epsilon transition enters q_accept.
For epsilon input, switch to q_pop and then q_accept without consuming symbols.
The PDA accepts exactly equal numbers of a followed by b; it rejects interleavings and unequal counts.

10. SEMANTIC_EQUIVALENCE
PDA_LANGUAGE_EQUIVALENCE(P1,P2) := L(P1) = L(P2), relative to specified acceptance modes.
PDA_CFG_CORRESPONDENCE := language equivalence under a correct CFG-to-PDA or PDA-to-CFG construction.
NOTE: General equivalence of arbitrary nondeterministic PDAs is undecidable; do not claim a universal decision procedure.

11. CONFIDENCE
MATHEMATICAL_DEFINITIONS: 0.99 (established theory)
EXAMPLE_MODEL: 0.98 (subject to implementation-specific transition encoding)
PAGE_SPECIFIC_ALIGNMENT: unverified
CONFIDENCE_POLICY: confidence is descriptive metadata, not proof of correctness.

12. FLOW_HASH
HASH_ALGORITHM: SHA-256
HASH_INPUT: canonical UTF-8 serialisation of the flow body excluding the FLOW_HASH value itself.
FLOW_HASH_VALUE: COMPUTE_ON_PUBLICATION

13. UPDATE_MODEL
TRIGGER: source-page revision, corrected mathematical definition, ontology relationship change, or new validation requirement.
PROCESS: verify source -> review definitions -> update version -> run mathematical checks -> compute FLOW_HASH -> publish with provenance.
PRESERVE: prior version, change log, source URL, and validation results.

INTENDED_USE: semantic indexing, ontology linking, teaching, symbolic reasoning, automata modelling, and formal validation.
REQUIRED_CONTEXT: alphabet, stack orientation, transition semantics, acceptance mode.
OUTPUT_CONTRACT: typed entities, well-formed transitions, explicit acceptance evidence or qualified unknown result.
